Who we are

A small bench of engineers who still go to the field

James Parker founded the practice in 2009 after fifteen years splitting time between port infrastructure and warehouse development on both sides of the Passaic. The model has not changed: one licensed engineer owns the project from the scoping call to the closeout letter.

That matters most on the ground we work in. Newark's east ward sits on urban fill over soft organic silt over glacial outwash — a profile that punishes generic assumptions. We have logged that stratigraphy across hundreds of parcels, and we bring the file with us to your first meeting.

Most clients start with a boring program and stay with us through cylinder breaks and final inspection statements. Every scope below can be bid on its own or bundled into a single fixed fee.

01 — Service

Subsurface Investigation

Truck- and track-mounted drilling with ASTM D1586 split-spoon sampling, Shelby tube sampling, rock coring and cone penetration testing. Boring logs are reduced by the same engineer who scopes the program.

Standard residential and light-commercial investigations are issued within five to eight business days of the last boring. Rush schedules are quoted honestly — if we cannot hit your date, we say so on the call.

How a project runs

From your first call to a sealed report in five steps

  1. Scoping call & site review

    We pull historic maps, prior borings within a quarter mile, and utility markouts before quoting. Fifteen minutes on the phone usually removes a third of the guesswork.

  2. Fixed-fee proposal

    A one-page scope with boring count, depths, laboratory program, deliverable list and schedule. No hourly open ends, no "estimated" line items that move later.

  3. Field mobilization

    Markouts, access plan, traffic protection and drilling. Our own rigs, so the schedule is ours to keep. Daily field notes go out the same evening.

  4. Laboratory & analysis

    Classification, moisture, gradation, consolidation and strength testing as the program requires, reduced into the profile that drives your foundation.

  5. Sealed report & support

    Recommendations, boring logs, lab sheets and a signed PE seal — plus unlimited phone support through construction. We answer for what we wrote.

Common questions

Answered before you ask

How many borings does my project need?
For a typical warehouse pad we plan one boring per 5,000–10,000 sf with a minimum of four, extended to refusal or 50 feet. Residential additions often need two. The honest answer depends on the structure, the column loads and what the adjacent files already tell us — we will give you a number on the first call.
What does a geotechnical investigation cost in Newark?
Most small-commercial programs in Essex and Hudson counties land between $4,500 and $12,000 depending on boring count, depth, access restrictions and laboratory scope. We quote fixed fees so the number on the proposal is the number on the invoice.
Can you handle the special inspections too?
Yes. Bundling the investigation and the special inspection program keeps one team accountable to the building department and avoids the finger-pointing that costs schedule.
How fast can you mobilize?
Markouts govern. With a standard NJ One Call ticket we are typically drilling within five to seven business days, and we hold emergency capacity for active-site problems — call 908-383-5504 and ask for the yard.
